With back-to-school season already underway in some parts of the country, it may seem like summer’s winding down. But there’s still plenty of time to gather with family and friends and enjoy the outdoors at a cookout or picnic, especially if you want to highlight the season’s freshest produce. Don’t forget to add some hummus or ranch dressing on the side for extra dipping goodness.
But if you recently decided to add a dessert-inspired dip to your party spread (or just wanted to treat yourself), read on for an alert from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
On Saturday, August 9, the FDA released information concerning a nationwide recall of 19,368 retail units of Park Street Deli Cinnamon Bun Dessert Dip, reportedly sold in 7-ounce plastic tubs. It’s not immediately clear from details provided by the FDA whether each retail unit counts as one 7-ounce container.
Though the discount chain Aldi is not mentioned by name in the report, an online search shows a matching product description listed on the Aldi website. A product label photo indicates the dip can be used with fruit, graham crackers, or pretzels.
The recalled dips may contain a foreign material, specifically plastic, according to the FDA. In the past week, we’ve reported on recalls of cookies, a blood pressure medication, and even breast milk for similar reasons.
Per the report, the recall—which is listed as “ongoing—was first initiated on July 24, though information was just made publicly available late last week. As of August 8, the FDA has classified the recall as a Class II, meaning it’s a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
Available product details include:

- Net Weight: 7 ounces (oz) in plastic tub
- UPC: 4061462440151

The listed recalling firm, Superior Foods Company of Kentwood, MI, provides products to retail and supermarket chains, restaurants, resorts, healthcare facilities, and more, according to a company website.
If this is your first time hearing about this sweet treat, it might be helpful to know the label shows two tablespoons of the dip equals 120 calories, making it a snack perhaps best enjoyed in smaller portions.
