When the household has a favorite cereal, it can be worth just buying the giant box on your regular haul to Costco, BJ’s, or Sam’s Club.

But, following an ongoing trend this year where it seems parts from the production process have been found in popular food items (see jerky and salsa as just a couple examples), late Thursday the FDA published an update on Post Consumer Brands, LLC—the company making Post brand cereals—and their recall of a beloved breakfast cereal.

As we previously reported, the advisory states that on May 28 of this year, 5,376 boxes of Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds were recalled due to the reported discovery of “Foreign material (metal)” inside the packaging.

This pertained to 48-ounce units, most likely the type of large boxes sold at several of the major warehouse chains. Each box reportedly contained two individually sealed bags of the cereal “for freshness.”

The report also noted the problematic shipments were distributed to California and Colorado. Other reported product details included:

  • Post Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds, Sweetened Cereal with Oats and Honey
  • Net Wt 48 oz (3 lbs) 1.36kg (2 Bags inside for freshness)
  • UPC 8 84912-01428 3
  • Best if used by: April 9 and April 10, 2026
  • Recalling firm: Post Consumer Brands, LLC, Lakeville, MN 55044

The alert states that Post attempted to reach the retailer or consumers via at least two of the following methods: Email, Fax, Letter, Press Release, Telephone, Visit. Today’s FDA update reveals that the recall has been “Terminated.” This likely means the communications have been sent to the concerned parties, and affected product has been removed from retail.

We’ve stated previously that for most of the past decade, food recalls were largely executed due to undeclared ingredients, often allergens. Recently, foreign matter has been in increasingly common reason. Some market experts have suggested this trend could simply be due to more reliable reporting systems being implemented and followed.
